Clockwork Angels is the 20th studio album by the Canadian rock band Rush. It was released in June 2012 on Roadrunner Records.

History

The album was recorded in April 2010 at Blackbird Studio in Nashville, Tennessee, and from October to December 2011 Revolution Recording in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Co-producer and mixer was Nick Raskulinecz. In February 2009 Alex Lifeson had indicated that Raskulinecz, who worked for the band already at Snakes & Arrows, would act as a co-producer for the next album again. However, he denied that a concept album was planned. 2010 then Caravan/BU2B has already been released as a single.

In February 2012, the author Kevin J. Anderson, a friend of Neil Peart announced plans to write a novel about the album. He also revealed substantive details on the concept of the album: "In a young man 's quest to follow his dreams, he is caught in between the terrific forces of order and chaos He travels across a lavish and colorful world of steampunk and alchemy, with lost cities. pirates, anarchists, exotic carnivals, and a rigid Watchmaker who imposes precision on every aspect of daily life. " The novel was published on September 4, 2012.

The album reached number two on the charts in Canada and number one in the U.S..

Criticism

Thom Jurek of Allmusic awarded 4 out of 5 stars. He wrote, show the album, why the fan base of the band after 36 years to grow ". Its musical athleticism and calisthenic discipline are equaled only by its relentless creative drive and its will to express it in a distinct musical language"
