Clomethiazole (trade names in Germany and Switzerland: Distraneurin ®, manufactured by AstraZeneca), is a thiazole derivative, similar to the Thiazolanteil of thiamine (vitamin B1). Due to its sedative, hypnotic and anticonvulsant properties, it is used as a drug from the group of psychotropic drugs.

Clomethiazole is applied:

• In patients at older ages with agitation by organic brain syndrome
• With severe insomnia in older age
