CloneCD

CloneCD is a computer program that was originally designed by Elaborate Bytes and is now developed and distributed by the company SlySoft from Antigua and Barbuda. CloneCD it used to be possible to copy almost any on the market CD -ROM ( since version 5 and DVD- ROM) in spite of copy protection. Due to very slow and often stagnant development, most of the today usual for software copy protection methods, however, are now no longer supported. Since June 2007, the company SlySoft Game Jackal Pro provides with an active assisted product that tracks although a different approach (namely disk- free use ), but still aimed at the protection of copy-protected original media.

Reproduction and " Copying " the copy is made possible by the so-called RAW mode of CD burners, in which not only the (useful) data, but the raw data is copied. The raw data for example, contain information about the logical structure of a CD or DVD, especially the beginning and end of tracks.

Since version 5 CloneCD also copy DVDs as long as they are not encrypted with the usual video DVD Content Scramble System (CSS). With CSS encrypted DVDs can be copied only by use of a special driver like AnyDVD or DVD43, their distribution and commercial use in most EU countries, however, is not permitted. If it is in the template to a double layer DVD ( as with most DVD video), a double-layer blank must be used for the copy. To copy a dual-layer DVD to a single layer blank DVD, special copy tools like CloneDVD or Nero Recode are required, transcode the movie data that is read, decompress, compress and burn more on the blank.
