The Clorox Company is a household goods and chemical companies from the United States with headquarters in Oakland, California. The company is listed on the stock index S & P 500.

The company is best known for the brand of bleach Clorox.

Company History

The company was founded on May 3, 1913 by Archibald Taft, Edward Hughes, Charles Husband, Rufus Myers and William Hussey. The company had initially the company name Electro- Alkaline Company. In 1928, the company went public in San Francisco and changed the company name to Clorox Chemical Company.

In 1957 the company was bought by Clorox the competitor Procter & Gamble. The purchase, however, was banned by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC ), as the FTC feared a monopoly of Procter & Gamble in the household goods market in the United States. The FTC won this dispute and 1969, Clorox was again an independent company.
