Club Atlético Nueva Chicago

Club Atlético Nueva Chicago is an Argentine football club based in the district Mataderos in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires. The club name refers to the nickname of the district, which was compared because of its many slaughterhouses in the past with Chicago. The club plays at the Estadio Nueva Chicago Stadium.

Riots in 2007

In the 2006/07 season the club played in the Primera Division, but increased from the second division after the team lost a play-off against Tigre. During the second half, when it was clear that Nueva Chicago loses, the fans began to riot, and caused considerable damage to the stadium. There were also street fighting in which a follower of Tigre died. As a consequence, the team got a deduction of 18 points at the start of the new season .. Most followers of Nueva Chicago, however, condemned the violence and regretted the death of the Tigre fans. The death was the first in connection with a game of Nueva Chicago and many supporters were outraged that excesses of a few could not be stopped by the police and the club responsible.
