Club Portugalete

The club Portugalete is a Spanish football club from Portugalete in the Basque Country. The club was founded in 1909 and plays its home matches at the Estadio La Florida, which offers space for 3,000 spectators.

History

The history of the Club Portugalete goes back to the year 1899, when the football match of English immigrants to Portugalete and the Basque Country came, the first club Athletic de Portugalete was founded. In 1909, some sports clubs were united under the name Club Deportivo Portugalate the count as an official founding club of today's Club Portugalete.

In 1915 the club reached the top division in the Campeonato Regional Norte for the first time. In the same year, the leagues were restructured in the Basque Country and Portugalete had to leave the league again, which resulted in the same time that the matches in the club was completely set. In 1921 it came to starting up the football department and the club operated under the name Portugalete Futbol Club, later as Portugalete Chiqui and at the time of Francoism then as Nuevo Club Portugalete.

1951 succeeded Portu first promotion to the third- highest league in Spain, Tercera División of, after they had previously spent many years in the regional leagues. The club was able to keep the league for a few seasons, but rose again in the regional leagues. By the year 2001, one could repeatedly in the Tercera División rise, which has since been the fourth league, but rarely earn places in the top half of the table. In the 2004/05 season could be the group 4 of the fourth division for the first time to complete a master and so on Segunda División B for the playoffs participate, where the ascent succeeded.
