Clumping factor A

The clumping factor A ( Clumpingfaktor A) is formed of certain bacteria, especially Staphylococcus aureus protein is localized on the cell surface.

Function

It is a so-called fibrinogen receptor, the individual fibrin ( fibrin monomers ) can be activated by binding in the blood plasma. This leads to a clumping of blood plasma ( Plasmaagglutination ), hence the name Clumpingfaktor. In addition, the Clumpingfaktor A specifically binds to fibrinogen, so that it is included in the group of adhesins. Adhesins play an important role in the infection process. The Clumpingfaktor A is thus an important virulence factor of Staphylococcus aureus.

Diagnostic significance

The Clumpingfaktor can be demonstrated through various agglutination and thus used for the diagnosis of staphylococcus aureus infection. Under the coagulase reaction activity Plasmakoagulase and Clumpingfaktors A can be detected.
