Clyde Tolson

Clyde Anderson Tolson ( May 22nd, 1900 in Laredo ( Missouri), † April 14, 1975 ) was Associate Director of the FBI. In the main, he was responsible for personnel affairs, in charge less for the fight against crime.

After he had applied in vain to the FBI, he got a job in 1927 and was in 1930 promoted to Assistant Director ( later he became Associate Director and Deputy of J. Edgar Hoover ). After Hoover's death on May 2, 1972, he was director for a day, but was replaced the next day by L. Patrick Gray and left two weeks later the FBI.

It is believed that J. Edgar Hoover and Clyde Tolson were cohabiting. The two men worked closely together during the day, attended the evening together nightclubs and often went on holiday together. After Hoover's death in 1972, Tolson inherited the bulk of his assets and moved into his house. Later he was buried adjacent to Hoover's grave. Rumors that the two had homosexual contact, but remained unconfirmed.
