Co Adriaanse

Jacobus "Co" Adriaanse ( born July 21, 1947 in Amsterdam ) is a former Dutch football player and current coach. Highlights of his career were previously winning the Portuguese Doubles with FC Porto in the 2005/06 season and the championship title with Red Bull Salzburg in the 2008 /09 season. Most recently, he assisted in the season 2011/12 Dutch Cup winners and runners-up FC Twente Enschede.

Sporting career

Player

Adriaanse was active as an amateur player initially at the clubs HRVC Amsterdam, Amsterdam OSV and DRC Amsterdam. In 1964 he was awarded a professional contract with De Volewijckers. In 1970 he moved to FC Utrecht, where he finished his playing career in 1976.

As a coach of Zwolle to Ajax

In 1979 he took his first coaching job at the amateur team Zilvermeeuwen. He then trained with the PEC Zwolle first time a club in the Dutch Eredivisie. There were other engagements at FC Den Haag, where he was released on 12 February 1992, at Willem II Tilburg, where he resigned from his post on 8 May 2000, and at Ajax Amsterdam, where he was released on 29 November 2001.

With AZ Alkmaar in the UEFA Cup

From 2 November 2002 until the end of the 2004/05 season he was coach of the Dutch Ehrendivisionärs AZ Alkmaar. This he led in the 2003/04 season to fifth place in the table and qualified for the UEFA Cup. In the same year he was awarded the Dutch coach of the year. The following season was Adriaanse with AZ Alkmaar Herbstmeister the Eredivisie, but in the end it was only enough for third place. In the UEFA Cup, the team moved even the semi-finals, but lost against Sporting Lisbon.

Double with Porto - Engagement in Ukraine

After these successes outsider Co Adriaanse changed from the 2005/06 season with FC Porto, where he won the league and cup right away. Nevertheless, he joined there back in August 2006. Since the resolution of the existing contract was non-compliant, he was condemned by the world governing body FIFA to a fine of 1.15 million euros.

At the beginning of the season 2006/ 07 Co Adriaanse entered the service of the Ukrainian first division Metalurh Donetsk.

Commitment to Red Bull Salzburg

On 1 July 2008 he succeeded Giovanni Trapattoni at FC Red Bull Salzburg. On April 7, it was announced that his expiring in June 2009 contract was not renewed, although he won the Austrian championship with the team.

From 12 January 2010 coached and led the Salzburg master coach, who coached already 2007-2008 Al -Sadd, the young national team of Qatar, which he was to lead to the 2012 Olympic Games. The cooperation was terminated because of different conceptions of association and coach on March 24, 2011.

FC Twente

For the 2011/12 season Adriaanse returned to the domestic Eredivisie. The FC Twente signed him as the successor of the Belgian Michel Preud'homme, with the club from Enschede Cup winner and runner-up had become. With Twente, he won early in the season the Johan Cruijff Schaal. After the team's only place was taken after the first round in the Eredivisie and was excreted in the cup competition already in the second round, the club parted in the winter break of Adriaanse.
