Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, also known as Coachella is a music festival in Indio in the Coachella Valley, California. The festival takes place every year since 1999 to now three days. In addition to performances of alternative rock, hip hop and electronica artists and bands installations and sculptures are presented. In 2007, the festival took place on five major and several smaller stages.
Development
Back in 1993, played with Tool and Pearl Jam, the first rock bands on the grounds of the Empire Polo Club. The first festival took place on 9 and 10 October 1999. Around 25,000 visitors saw performances by bands such as Beck, The Chemical Brothers, Tool, Morrissey, and Rage Against the Machine. In 2000, a festival was held due to financial problems of the organizers. A year later, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival was held on April 28 in order to reduce the budget and avoid the heat of summer. As headliner Jane 's Addiction could be obtained which reunited for the festival. 2002 played in two days, among other things Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bjork and Oasis, a year later joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beastie Boys and The Stooges with Iggy Pop as " Iggy and the Stooges " on.
For the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in 2004 could be sold for the first time, all 50,000 tickets. On two days were among other Pixies, Radiohead, Kraftwerk and The Cure on. The 2007 edition of the festival took place again in three days. In addition to Red Hot Chili Peppers and Björk played the reunited band Rage Against the Machine in front of 100,000 spectators.
From 25th to 27th April 2008, the ninth Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival was held, among other things, were Prince, Tegan and Sara, Portishead, Kraftwerk, Death Cab for Cutie, Roger Waters, Jack Johnson and Fatboy Slim doing.
The tenth anniversary of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival started on 17th and ended on 19 April 2009. Among the more than 130 guests of the lineups were, inter alia, Paul McCartney, The Ting Tings, Billy Talent, James Morrison, The Chemical Brothers, The Killers, Joss Stone, Groove Armada, Public Enemy and the Cure and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
