Coal County, Oklahoma

The Coal County is a county located in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. In the census in 2010, the County had 5,925 inhabitants and a population density of 4.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Coalgate.

Geography

The County is located in the central south-east of Oklahoma, is located in the south about 90 miles from Texas and has an area of 1,350 square kilometers, of which 8 square miles is water area. It is bordered by the following counties:

History

The Coal County was formed on 16 July 1907 as the original County of Choctaw country. It was named after the mined here since the 19th century coal deposits.

According to the census in 2010 lived in Coal County 5,925 people in 2,344 households. The population density was 4.4 people per square kilometer.

The racial the population was composed of 74.3 percent white, 0.5 percent African American, 16.7 percent Native American, 0.2 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 7.8 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity were 2.6 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

25.5 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 56.7 percent were between 18 and 64 and 17.8 percent were 65 years or older. 50.6 percent of the population was female.
