Description

In the red escutcheon a golden silver langued reinforced gold crowned lion. Supporters are two golden rotgezungte silver reinforced gold -winning lion, is over the crest the golden crown with the orb on the crown center of the living in the 14th century ruler Ivan Schischman. Symbolism

The three lions represent the largest areas of Bulgaria: Misija, Thrace and Macedonia. The crown above it symbolizes the time of the Second Bulgarian Empire, during which the country experienced the liberation of Byzantium and its greatest extent.

Coat of Arms of the People's Republic of Bulgaria

During the communist period (1946-1990) the coat of arms was changed three times, but the basic principles remain the same. As always, a coat of arms was used, which closely modeled on the Soviet Union. The first coat of arms, adopted in 1948, shows a golden lion on a red field, surrounded by a wound in a red tape garland of corn, which allied the date " 9.IX.1944 ," the victory of the armed uprising of the day with Hitler contains monarchy. Formulation of today's coat of arms

In 1990, when the communist regime was eliminated, a preliminary coat of arms was adopted. It is the previous coat of arms, but without the socialist insignia as red star and red ribbon with the years.

The Bulgarian parliament took seven years to agree on this coat of arms.

It is the first official coat of arms since the collapse of the Eastern bloc and strongly resembles the coat of arms already in use from 1908 to 1944 of the Kingdom of Bulgaria.
