The coat of arms of Gabon in use since 15 July 1963.

Description

The coat of arms shows a golden heraldic shield, on which drives a black ship on the sea. The sea is represented by the blue sign foot.

Furthermore located in the green plate main three golden circles.

The shield is placed over a golden trunk of a provided with roots Okoume tree. These include a banner, on which the French national motto winds:

Above the shield is also a banner on which a Latin motto:

Symbolism

The coat of arms was created by the Swiss heraldist L. mill man and joins the national colors of Gabon with black as the color of Africa.

The three golden balls symbolize the abundance of natural resources.

The ship with the national flag at the stern is the will to progress and the importance of the sea to the land.

The shield rests on the golden root of a rooted Okoume tree whose wood up to the start of mining in the 1960s was the most important export commodity of the country and its importance is highlighted by the golden color.

The black panther as a symbol to remind the President of his responsibility to watch over the welfare of the country.
