Coat of arms of Ghana

The coat of arms of Ghana was awarded on March 4, 1957, two days before the country's independence, of Elizabeth II and Ghana since the official state coat of arms of Ghana.

It shows a blue shield, which is quartered by a green St. George's Cross with a golden edge. In the center of the cross is the golden lion running of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. This symbolizes the close relationship of Ghana to the Commonwealth and the Kingdom. The first box on the top right shows in blue a golden sword, as it is used in ceremonies, which, is a so-called golden linguist or language expert staff, the Okyeame as St. Andrew's Cross. This is the symbol for the regional governments of Ghana. The left panel shows the representation of a castle in front of a sea of the presidential palace - which lies on the Gulf of Guinea in Accra - and thus symbolizes the national government. In the third blue field of the shield is in the sign on green background, a cacao tree with fruit that will embody the agricultural wealth of Ghana. The fourth and last field - bottom left - shows in blue a gold mine on a green background, which stands for the mineral wealth of Ghana.

On the shield there is a bead which consists of the Pan-African colors of red -gold- green, which are also included in the national flag of Ghana. It says a gold margined black five-pointed star, a symbol for the freedom of Africa. Also, this symbol is included in the national flag.

As a crest holder serve two golden eagle rotbewehrte to their neck hangs still such a black star on a ribbon in the national colors. They stand on a golden tape, on which the national motto of Ghana is in red majuscule: FREEDOM AND JUSTICE ( eng., " liberty and justice ").
