The coat of arms of Gibraltar was founded on July 10, 1502 by Isabella of Castile, Toledo.

Description

The coat of arms with golden narrow board consists of a silver shield with a red sign foot on which is depicted a three-towered red castle with crenellated, black windows, at the castle gate hangs a golden key. The motto on a gold band with black lettering is called in Latin:

Calpe was in ancient times the name of the mountain.

The coat of arms is also part of the flag of Gibraltar.

Symbolism

The castle and the key remember that Gibraltar by its location on the Strait of Gibraltar is the key to the Mediterranean.
