Coat of arms of Greece

The official national emblem of Greece in use since June 7, 1975.

Description

The coat of arms shows a blue shield, which is from the upper left corner of the flag of Greece known continuous white Greek cross. The shield is surrounded by a laurel wreath.

History

A first version of this coat of arms was already known in 1827. The coat of arms at that time was a symbol of freedom struggles that led to the independence of Greece from the Ottoman Empire in 1830. About the Crest version under the reign of King Otto (1833-1862) is the Crown of the Kingdom of Bavaria. After the arrival of happiness Burger in Greece they sat on the modified version of the coat of arms of the Danish crown of Christian V. The small state coat of arms
