The coat of arms of Iraq was officially introduced in 1965. However, until 1992, the division of Coat of Arms was vertically instead of horizontally. The letters of 1992 inserted lettering "Allahu akbar " was changed in Kufic script in 2004. In 2008, the three green stars have been removed.

The coat of arms consists of a Saladin eagle breastplate, showing the national colors of red, white and black. In the white box is the inscription " Allahu Akbar " means " Allah is great ". In its talons the eagle holds the inscription al - al - Iraqiya Jumhariya ( Iraqi Republic).

The Saladin eagle was also used by the United Arab Republic. Iraq did in 1965 thus express his will to union with Syria and Egypt. For these plans, however, was nothing.

Together with the draft of a new Iraqi flag was adopted by the Provisional Government on 26 April 2004, the change in the state insignia: A star with ear of wheat, set in the proclamation of the Republic of Iraq in 1958, is to be reused. The change was not made at that time, but in 2008 the three stars were removed from the flag, so that a change in the coat of arms was necessary.
