Coat of arms of Ireland

The coat of arms of the Republic of Ireland (English Coat of arms of Ireland, Irish Armas na hÉireann, also known as Brian Boru Harp, Trinity College Harp or simply Brian Boru ) consists of a harp on a blue background.

History

The harp is already in the 13th century, a landmark of Ireland and first appeared on a coin during the reign of Henry VIII, The Brian Boru Harp goes back to the late 14th century and is in the Long Room of the Library of Trinity College, Dublin to visitors. The harp was named after the High King Brian Boru, who, however, more than 400 years before the production of harp died, so that they never belonged to him.

The image of the harp is used on Irish coins, passports and government documents, and it is also the official seal of the president, ministers and other officials. The harp on coins from 1928 was largely based on the Galway - harp, while a modified version was introduced in 1939, based on the current Irish coins.
