The coat of arms of Monaco is the emblem used since 1858 the Prince Grimaldi family.

Description

The red and silver gerau tete French shield is surrounded by an ermine-lined mantle and surmounted by a crown.

The chain and the Grand Cross of the Order of Saint Charles surrounding the shield.

Two armed with swords Minorite serve as a sign holder, and are a throwback to the conquest of Monaco in 1297 by the troops of Francesco Grimaldi, who dressed as monks.

The ribbon below the shield is the Latin motto of the Grimaldis:
