Coat of arms of Pennsylvania

The flag of the U.S. state of Pennsylvania was introduced on June 13, 1907.

The blue cloth of the flag goes back to military flags. In the center is the state seal, dating from 1893, that the seal of Philadelphia from 1701 comes in parts.

The seal contains the top third of a ship under full sail, in the middle of a plow and the lower third of three wheat bundle. These symbols represent the importance of trade, labor, perseverance and agriculture for the state.

The bald eagle, the emblem of the U.S., symbolizes the sovereignty of the state. Supporters are two horses.
