Coat of arms of the Philippines

The coat of arms of the Philippines was completed by an Act of 2 July 1946. The primary colors, sun and stars are taken from the flag of the Philippines. The eight-rayed sun high in the oval represents the eight provinces of Batangas, Bulacan, Cavite, Manila, Laguna, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga and Tarlac and the independence of the country. The three five-pointed star representing the three main geographic regions of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The lion is reminiscent of Spanish rule from 1596 to 1898, while the eagle reminds with the three arrows and the olive branch together in two catches to the domination of the United States from 1898 to 1946. Frequently ( as here ) the eagle is incorrectly shown on the front of the Seal of the United States, with the olive branch in one hand and arrows in the other catch. On the tape below the coat of arms can be found since 1986 the lettering REPUBLIC NG PILIPINAS.
