Coats Land is a region in Ostantarktika, the west adjoins Queen Maud Land and forms the eastern coast of the Weddell Sea. It extends in a direction from southwest to northeast between 20 and 36 degrees west latitude. The northeast part was discovered by William Speirs Bruce, who led the Scottish National Antarctic Expedition 1902-1904. He named the area after James Coats, Jr., and Major Andrew Coats, the main supporters of the expedition.

In December 1914-January 1915 led Ernest Shackleton and his Endurance expedition further exploration to the south continued and explored while the country in 1912 discovered Wilhelm Filchner from Germany. He started his expedition to the Caird Coast.
