Cobalt (II ) carbonate is an inorganic chemical compound consisting of the group of the carbonates ( the carbonate of cobalt ). It is an odorless, pink to red crystalline powder with trigonal crystals. Technical cobalt (II ) carbonate contains partly cobalt ( II) hydroxide as an admixture.
Occurrence
Of course, cobalt ( II ) carbonate as a mineral Sphärocobaltit occurs.
Production and representation
Cobalt (II ) carbonate can be recovered (II) chloride and sodium carbonate by reaction of the cobalt (II ) acetate or cobalt. These usually arise basic cobalt ( II) carbonate.
Use
Cobalt (II ) carbonate is used as catalyst and pigment and is contained in ceramic glazes as a dye (blue).
Safety
Cobalt (II ) carbonate is classified as carcinogenic category 2 EC, EC mutagenic category 3 and as a substance of fertility impairing EC Category 2. It can be absorbed through the skin.
