Cobourg

Cobourg [ koʊ̯bəɹg ] is a Canadian city on Lake Ontario in Northumberland County. It is situated 75 kilometers east of Toronto in the Province of Ontario and in 2009 had about 18,500 inhabitants.

History

The city was founded in 1798 as Amherst. In 1819 it was renamed in memory of the wedding of Crown Princess Charlotte of England to Prince Leopold of Saxe -Coburg in Cobourg. 1868 Cobourg was the birthplace of actress Marie Dressler.

Twinning

Cobourg in 1997 twinned with the town of Coburg in Bavaria received after initial proposals have been made for this purpose in 1972 by the German city.

In addition, Cobourg is twinned with the Albanian capital Tirana.
