Cobra Museum

The Cobra Museum ( proper name: cobra museum voor modern art ) in the Dutch town of Amstelveen ( North Holland ) is a museum of modern art and a collection of Dutch artists and the international CoBrA movement. The initiative for the establishment of the museum went from the town of Amstelveen out in cooperation with several major Dutch companies. The museum was opened on November 8, 1995, the opening date was a reference to the founding of the CoBrA movement on 8 November (1948 ). Since its inception, the Cobra Museum is a foundation that works as an independent organization and as art world.

History

The Cobra - art, originated in Paris (1948-1951), caused a "revolution" in modern art in the Netherlands. The Cobra Museum aims to be a center of expertise in the spirit of CoBrA, where the experiment, Expressionism and Surrealism are expressed. The Cobra - art in the museum stands for creative freedom, vitality and social engagement. The building of the museum was designed by the Dutch architect Wim Quist (* 1930) and includes approximately 2500 m². The garden at the Museum was created by the Cobra artists Shinkichi Tajiri.

There is a museum shop, among other books on art and graphics, a museum café, a children's studio and a photo studio. In addition, rooms are available for initiatives that would like to organize art courses the museum. The library is to visit by appointment only. From 2013 workshops are arranged for adults. For children between seven and ten years have already held workshops in the school holidays.

Exhibitions

2002 an exhibition of the Dutch artist and musician Herman Brood was organized.

From July 2, 2012 to October 10, 2012, an exhibition was held under the name Cobra Cities. De Kunstenaars en Metropol ( "Cobra cities. Artists and the metropolis "). The Cobra Art is connected with the cities of Copenhagen, Brussels, Amsterdam and New York City and Paris.

An extensive exhibition at the Sakip Sabanci Museum in Istanbul under the title Cobra - 1000 Days of Free Art was held with the participation of the Cobra Museum from June 2012 to September 2012. The "official cultural program " was held to celebrate the 400 years of diplomatic relations between the Netherlands and Turkey.

An exhibition of the work of Paul Klee titled Klee en Cobra. Het begint as a child was to be seen from January 2012 to April 2012 in the Cobra Museum. The exhibition was organized in collaboration with the Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.

In the museum with their works permanently represented: Pierre Alechinsky, Karel Appel, Eugene Brands, Constant, Corneille, Christian Dotremont, Henry Heerup, Robert Jacobsen, Asger Jorn, Lucebert Jan Nieuwenhuys, Carl- Henning Pedersen, Reinhoud, Anton Rooskens, Shinkichi Tajiri and Theo Wolvecamp.

Since its founding in 1995 until the end of the year 2012, the Cobra Museum had approximately 100,000 visitors.
