The coccygeal muscle (Latin for " tailbone muscle ") is a striated muscle (skeletal muscle) of triangular, flat form. It is situated behind the levator ani, takes its origin from the ischial spine of the ischium and sets the coccyx ( tailbone ) to. His muscle fibers are normally adherent to the sacrospinous ligament. The muscle is not present in all individuals. Is Innervated the tailbone muscle through the nerve coccygeus.

Function

The coccygeal muscle enhances the effect of the levator ani muscle in the pelvic diaphragm and fixed the coccyx. He also closes dorsally toward the pelvis along with the piriformis muscle.
