Cocheren

Cocheren ( German cookers ) is a commune with 3513 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Forbach and Canton Behren- lès -Forbach.

Geography

Cocheren is located on the Rossel, a left-side tributary of the Saar, between Forbach and Saint- Avold. The town is near the border of the Saarland in the cross-border landscape of Warndt. Towering above the town from the hill of Hérapel ( colline du Hérapel, 330 m). The municipality covers 5.62 km ². Cocheren had a station on the railway Forbach.

History

On the Hérapel there was a Celtic settlement that flourished in Gallo-Roman times. Finds from this period are in museums in Metz and Sarreguemines as well as in Germany, since the first excavations before the First World War under German administration (1871-1914) took place.
