Cocke County, Tennessee

Cocke County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Newport.

Geography

The County is located in Eastern Tennessee, bordering North Carolina and has an area of ​​1148 square kilometers, of which 23 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Hamblen County, Greene County, Madison County ( North Carolina), Haywood County ( North Carolina), Sevier County and Jefferson County.

History

Cocke County was formed on October 9, 1797 from parts of Jefferson County. It was named for William Cocke, a well-known politician in Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee and the Northwest Territory.
