Coco Montoya

Coco Montoya ( born October 2, 1951 Santa Monica, California as Henry Montoya ) is an American blues guitarist.

Career

The guitarist was born in Santa Monica, the son of a working class family who owned a large record collection. As a child he loved to find notes on the guitar, but his musical career began as a drummer in a rock band to perform at local clubs. In one of these clubs she heard Albert Collins, who took Montoya as a drummer in his band. He took him under his wing and taught him to play guitar. " He was like a father to me. - Coco Montoya " Until the early 1980s, he remained in Collins ' band and the two remained friends after their separation.

At the beginning of the 1980s, he was playing in small clubs, where he heard John Mayall and hired him for a new edition of his Bluesbreakers. The guitarist is heard on three studio albums and a live album of the Bluesbreakers.

Mid -1990s, he decided to get off at the Blue breakers and pursue a solo career, a decision to which advised him also his mentor Albert Collins. He signed a recording contract with Blind Pig Records and recorded his first solo album. In 1997 they separated and Montoya signed with Alligator Records. To date, Coco Montoya plays some 200 concerts a year.
