CocoRosie

CocoRosie is a Founded in 2003, American music group consisting of sisters Sierra and Bianca Casady. Sierra plays guitar, harp and takes over a part of the singing, Bianca is a singer and plays the flute. They are supported by various musicians, such as the beatboxers TEZ and Spleen, pianist Gael Rakotondrabe, and Antony Hegarty or Devendra Banhart.

Biography

Sierra, the older sister, was born in Iowa and named by her mother Rosie. Bianca was born in Hawaii, was named ' Coco '. The mother, a teacher and artist, moved with the children from one state to the next. Her father traveled as a preacher by the United States.

When the daughters were five and three years old, the parents divorced. At the age of 14 years, Sierra came to a boarding school. Then the two sisters lost sight of. 2000 Sierra moved to Paris to study singing at the Paris Conservatory. Bianca studied linguistics and sociology.

In 2003, Bianca began a world tour. She was visiting her sister in Paris after both had not seen for more than ten years. Operating together, then came the first album La Maison de Mon Rêve. At this time was not yet planned release of the album, but in 2004 it was brought out by the independent label Touch and Go Records.

Bianca and Sierra Casady live together in Paris. Sierra has founded with a friend, Matteah Baim, Metallic Falcons under the name of a new band, which stands at the label founded by Bianca Voodoo Eros Records. Bianca has been working as a visual artist and designed some covers and posters of CocoRosie.

Under the motto "Expulsion from Paradise" curated CocoRosie 2012, a weekend of Danube Festival ( Krems / Austria ). In addition to performances by numerous musicians from their environment ( Antony Hegarty, Diane Cluck, Nomi, Rajasthan Roots tez, ... ) presented CocoRosie with the ballet "Night Shift" ( Bianca ) and the " Popera " "Soul Life" ( Sierra ) also own new projects.

Style

Their music is a mix of electronic samples, classical singing and distorted, childlike vocals of Bianca and combines traditional song patterns and instrumentation with electronic music, opera. This CocoRosie used unusual "instruments" such as a popcorn machine, children's toys or a hair dryer.

Despite the often naive and childlike music the lyrics are often very feminist or politically motivated. CocoRosie is attributed to a special feeling for language and symbolism.
