Codicil (will)

A codicil is a unilateral, at any time revocable testamentary arrangement which does not contain Erbeinsetzung, but only other dispositions contrary to the will. A codicil can be used, for example, the appointment of a legatee. The exposure of a bequest means that someone only certain specifically designated to receive things from the estate.

The term codicil is originally from Roman law and was later transferred to the common law. Apply the same formalities as a will. When drafting, it is advisable to seek the advice of a lawyer or notary, so there is no confusion of who should be beyond heritage and thus universal successor.

Formerly the word was also used for an addition to international treaties, such as the Rag codicil as an addition to border treaty between the kingdoms of Norway and Sweden from 1751st

In German law, the term is not used.
