Coeuve

Coeuve is a municipality in the district of Porrentruy in the canton of Jura in Switzerland. The former German name Küf and runners are no longer used today.

Geography

The area of ​​11.6 km ² large municipality territory comprises the upper part of Coeuvatte Valley, which is sunk into the gently undulating plateau of the Jura mountains Ajoie. To the east the municipal area extends to the height of charm (up to 500 m above sea level. M. ). In the western part of the municipality are the forests Montorbé, Corbété and Bois de Sapins. In the latter located at 553 m above sea level. M. the highest point of the municipality. The area is drained by the Coeuvatte to Allaine. From the municipality surface 1997 4 % came from settlements, 38 % of forest and woody plants and 58 % to agriculture.

To Coeuve include the hamlet of Sur le Mont, 536 m above sea level. M. on the ridge between the Allaine and the Coeuvatte Valley, as well as several individual farms. Neighboring communities of Coeuve are Porrentruy, Courchavon, Lower Allaine, Damphreux, Vendlincourt and all.

Population

With 701 inhabitants ( as at 31 December 2012) is one Coeuve the medium-sized municipalities in the canton of Jura. Of the 95.3 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 2.8 % and 0.8 % portugiesischsprachig (as of 2000). The population of Coeuve amounted in 1850 to 630 residents in 1900 to 757 inhabitants. Thereafter, the population increased to 1990 from 557 people. Since then, a slight increase was recorded again.

Economy

Coeuve is still dominated by agriculture, thanks to the fertile lands in the area. Since there are only relatively few jobs in the local small businesses outside the primary sector, many of the working population commuters; this work, especially in the region Porrentruy.

Traffic

The municipality is located on a regional road that leads from Porrentruy by Coeuve to France. By Postbus course, which runs on the track of Porrentruy to Beurnevésin, Coeuve is connected to public transport.

History

The discovery of about 600 Roman silver coins from the 3rd century AD in the municipality at Cras Roquet is evidence of a settlement already in Roman times. The village is first mentioned in 1136 as Cova. Coeuve shared the checkered history of the Ajoie who first came to the Prince-Bishopric of Basel in 1271. In the 16th century it became the capital of one of the five dairies ( mairies ) in Ajoie. During the riots of 1730-40, the villagers revolted against the prince-bishop's authority. Between 1793 and 1815 Coeuve belonged to France and was initially part of the département du Mont- Terrible, associated from 1800 with the Department of Haut -Rhin. By the decision of the Congress of Vienna, the place came in 1815 to the canton of Bern and on 1 January 1979 at the newly founded Canton Jura.

Attractions

The village developed in the transverse through the Valley Coeuvatte axis between the church and the castle. The parish church of Saint -Jean- devant la Porte- Latine was newly built in 1825, incorporating the powerful ashlar tower from the old building from the 13th and 14th centuries. The stained glass windows are decorated in the Gothic style, while the glass panes from 1946 come. In the castle, whose origins date back to the 16th century, today an agricultural farm estate is located. A special feature of Coeuve represents the wash-house is from the 18th century, which is at the source of the broader Coeuvatte and was included in the list of historical monuments in 1973.
