Coffee County (Tennessee)
Coffee County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Manchester.
Geography
The County is located just southeast of the geographic center of Tennessee, situated about 60 km to the south from Alabama and has an area of 1125 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Cannon County, Warren County, Grunby County, Franklin County, Moore County, Bedford County and Rutherford County.

History
Coffee County was formed on January 8, 1836 from parts of Bedford County, Franklin County and Warren County. It was named after John R. Coffee, an American brigadier general in the British -American War of 1812 and Jackson participating in various battles such as the Battle of Talladega (1813 ), the Battle of Horseshoe Bend and the Battle of New Orleans. The Coffee County in Alabama was also named after him.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Coffee County 48 014 people in 18,885 households and 13,597 families. The population density was 43 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 93.43 percent White, 3.59 percent African American, 0.30 percent Native American, 0.74 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.91 percent from other races groups; 1.00 percent were descended from two or more races. 2.19 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 18,885 households out of which 32.4 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 56.9 percent were married couples living together, 11.1 percent were single mothers and 28.0 percent were non-families. 24.3 percent of all households and 10.3 percent lived in persons aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average household size was 2.96 people.
25.1 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.3 percent between 18 to 24, 28.4 percent between 25 and 44, 23.6 percent between 45 and 64 and 14.6 percent were older than 65, the average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 95.1 males statistically every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.3 males.
The median income for a household was $ 34,898, and the median income for a family was $ 40,228. Males had a median income of $ 32,732, women $ 21,014. The per capita income was $ 18,137. 10.9 percent of families and 14.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
