Coffee County (Tennessee)

Coffee County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Manchester.

Geography

The County is located just southeast of the geographic center of Tennessee, situated about 60 km to the south from Alabama and has an area of 1125 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Cannon County, Warren County, Grunby County, Franklin County, Moore County, Bedford County and Rutherford County.

History

Coffee County was formed on January 8, 1836 from parts of Bedford County, Franklin County and Warren County. It was named after John R. Coffee, an American brigadier general in the British -American War of 1812 and Jackson participating in various battles such as the Battle of Talladega (1813 ), the Battle of Horseshoe Bend and the Battle of New Orleans. The Coffee County in Alabama was also named after him.
