Cohors XX Palmyrenorum

The Cohors XX Palmyrenorum ( "20 cohort of Palmyrans " ) was an auxiliary unit, a cohors equitata milliaria ( teilberittene, a thousand -strong cohort ), the Roman military, which had been set up originally from residents of the city of Palmyra.

As cohors equitata the Cohors XX Palmyrenorum consisted of a mixed unit of ten Centuries infantry and eight turmae cavalry, together about 1,000 men. It was erected in the late second century, when Palmyra was part of the Roman Empire.

The Cohors XX Palmyrenorum served in the late second century in Dacia before she was stationed end of the second century in Dura Europos. Their headquarters lay off the praetorium in the temple of Artemis Azzanathkona. Her main duties included the protection of the caravan routes in the border area of the Empire.
