Critical Perspectives

In some areas, the members of the group are scientifically very well renowned. The members of the Coimbra Group are tax- financed for the most part in the nation-states.

In contrast to the self-definition of the Coimbra Group is committed as a lobby group to represent their common interests. This is about influence on government policies such as the distribution of promotion subsidies, which may go at the expense of non-participating universities.

The Coimbra Group represents an aligned on economic efficiency rate and supports the Bologna Process. Some of the member universities do not belong according to the usual rankings rather the leading universities in their country.

It is believed universities are, for example, become a member of Coimbra due to the weighting of national interests. There are several well -known universities of Europe is not a member of the Coimbra Group, particularly other prestigious institutions such as the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge but very comfortable.
