Coiserette

Coiserette is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Coiserette situated 650 meters above sea level. M., about six kilometers south-southwest of the town of Saint- Claude ( a straight line ). The farming village extends in the Jura, in the deep valley of the Tacon, between the heights of the Combe Mathieu in the west and the Hautes- Combes in the east.

The area of ​​5.91 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The area is crossed from south to north by Tacon, which supplies its water of Bienne. That at its upper edge a maximum of two kilometers wide valley a canyon sunk into the high plateau of the Hautes- Combes and has a depth of over 500 m on the northern boundary of the municipality on. The upper valley slopes are very steep pronounced and are traversed by bands of rock ( resistant limestone layer). In the west, the municipality's area extends to the wooded plateau of the Combe Mathieu ( 1060 m above sea level. M. ). The eastern boundary runs in sections along the Tacon. In the south it extends over the eastern side of the valley up to the Hautes- Combes, on 1090 m above sea level. M. the highest elevation reached by Coiserette. The area of Coiserette is part of the Parc Naturel Régional du Haut- Jura.

Neighboring communities of Coiserette are Villard -Saint -Sauveur in the north, Coyrière and Les Moussières to the east, La Pesse and Les Bouchoux in the south and Larrivoire and Saint- Claude in the West.

History

Since the High Middle Ages Coiserette belonged together with Coyrière to the land of the monastery of Saint -Claude. After separation of Coyrière Coiserette was an independent municipality in 1790. It does not have its own church.

Population

With 49 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Coiserette one of the smallest towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 237 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Coiserette was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially livestock and dairy farming, as well as by the forestry village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector there are no jobs in the community.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares near a secondary road that leads from Saint -Claude Saint- Germain -de- Joux. Another road connection with Coyrière.
