Cojimar

Cojimar is a district of the municipality of Habana del Este in Cuba with about 21,000 inhabitants.

Location

Cojimar is located about ten kilometers east of the center of Habana at sea. The rocky coast is now well with many hotels. Nearby is the nature reserve Valle de Cojimar is located.

History

Originally a small fort ( Torreon de Cojimar of 1645 ) and a fishing harbor is situated Cojimar developed at the end of the 19th century bathing and health resort. The restaurant Las Arecas (now La Terraza ) wrote Ernest Hemingway, who was friends with the fishermen of the village, two of his novels.
