Cojutepeque is a city in El Salvador.

The town is the capital of the department of Cuscatlan and has 50 315 inhabitants ( 2007).

Cojutepeque one of the oldest cities of El Salvador, in the years 1832, 1834, 1839 and 1854 to 1858 was the capital of the Republic. On 13 February 2001, numerous buildings were destroyed the city by a strong earthquake. Most affected were the districts of San Jose, San Nicolas and El Calvario and the southern settlements.
