Colac, Victoria

Colac is a town in the south of the Australian state of Victoria. Colac is located approximately 150 km west of Melbourne.

The first European settlement in the area was established in 1837 by Hugh Murray. 1848 saw the establishment of the city under the name of Lake Colac. In the same year a post office was opened. 1854, the town's name was shortened to Colac.

Colac has about 11,000 inhabitants. Economically significant is only agriculture but also of tourism due to its proximity to the Great Otway National Park and its location on the Princes Highway. The town has a railway station with connections to Warrnambool and Melbourne ( Southern Cross Station ).
