Geography

History

Colbert County was formed on February 6, 1867 from parts of Franklin County. The first settlement dates back to the Cherokee and Chickasaw Indians as well as the first French traders around 1715. The first settlers arrived on the Tennessee River. 1790 George Colbert built the first ferry on the Tennessee River. The first settlement was founded in 1810 and had a sawmill in 1818, three houses and two trading posts. It later became the town of Tuscumbia. The first railway connection was 1830.
