Colby Armstrong

Colby Joseph Armstrong ( born November 23, 1982 in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who stands in July 2013 in Växjö Lakers Hockey of the Elitserien under contract. His younger brother Riley is also a professional hockey player.

Career

The 1.88 m wide winger started his professional career with the Red Deer Rebels in the Canadian junior Western Hockey League before he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2001 as 21 players in the first round by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Of the Penguins the right shooter was from 2002, used with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, a farm team in the American Hockey League, his NHL debut, he was, however, only in the season 2005/06. Because of its good performance in the following season, the Penguins Armstrong extended contract for another two years, annually brought him this contract 1.2 million U.S. dollars. Negative of the Canadians fell on at this time due to dangerous body checks that resulted in opponents as Trevor Letowski, Jeff Carter, Saku Koivu and Patrick Eaves to injuries, but were subsequently punished either by the referee in the game yet by the league. In the FreeAgent phase 2010 Armstrong joined the Toronto Maple Leafs to Canada, paid out his contract in June 2012. He then moved to the Montreal Canadiens.

On July 27, 2013 Armstrong announced that he would move to Växjö Lakers Hockey of the Elitserien.

Internationally

With the Canadian national team Colby Armstrong won the gold medal at the 2007 World Championships. In the final against Finland, the attacker, scoring the game -winning goal. Also in the 2009 World Cup he was in the squad of the Canadian selection that lost the final against Russia.
