Coldwater is a city in the United States in the U.S. state of Michigan. The German twin town of Coldwater is Soltau.

History

Coldwater was first settled in 1830 by Allen Tibbits and Joseph Hanchett. 1833 officially received its name. The name derives from the Coldwater River is flowing through the city and north and west of it forms several lakes. 1861 was the place the municipal law.

Also in 1861, the city an artillery battery (1st Michigan Volunteer Light Artillery ), led by Commander Cyrus Loomis, built for the U.S. to participate in the American Civil War. This later became one of the most famous units of the Civil War. Some of her 10 -pound cannons can be seen in the city center today.
