Colesbukta

Colesbukta with the remains of the loading station

Colesbukta is a 4.5 km wide bay on the south side of Longyearbyen on Spitsbergen. In the bay empties the current flowing through Colesdalen River Cole Selva. Colesdalen is one of the richest areas of vegetation on Svalbard.

Was on the east side of the bay up to the task of coal mining in 1962 the loading plant for opencast coal in Grumant and a settlement for Russian miners. Colesbukta was connected by a narrow-gauge railway with Loren Grumant, which was led by a tunnel through the cliff of Kolberget at Grumant. Only a few buildings are still in Colesbukta available.
