Colfelice

Colfelice is a municipality in the province of Frosinone in the Italian region Latium, located about 1910 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located 112 km southeast of Rome and 32 km east of Frosinone.

Geography

Colfelice is located in the valley of the Liri. It consists of two districts Coldragone and Villa Felice. It is a member of the Comunità Montana Valle del Liri.

The nearby towns are Arce, Rocca d' Arce, Roccasecca and San Giovanni Incarico.

Traffic

The territory of Colfelice is traversed since ancient times on the Via Latina, the present Via Casilina (SS 6). Colfelice is close to the A1 Autostrada del Sole motorway, between junctions Pontecorvo and Ceprano.

With the Colfelice station of the village lies on the railway line Avezzano - Sora - Roccasecca.

History

In the north of the parish, on the Via Ara Murata, 1976, the remains of an extensive villa have been excavated which show the colonization of the region in ancient times.

Villa Felice

Villa Felice is the older of the districts and may be traced back to such a Roman villa from the ancient times. In the Middle Ages it was also briefly called Le Case ( The houses ). The first mention of it in 1229 in a report of a fire in the place. It was most of the time the Dukes of Arce.

Coldragone

Coldragone was founded in 1583 by Giacomo Boncompagni, Duke of Arce, as a settlement for farm workers. The name refers to the heraldic animal of Boncompagni, the dragon (Italian = Dragone ), adorns the coat of arms today. However, the town grew slowly. Only from 1742 to 1746 was Gaetano Boncompagni I build a church. 1796 was the Duchy of Boncompagni directly to the Kingdom of Naples and became part of the province of Terra del Lavoro. In 1813 it became part of the municipality of Rocca d' Arce.

Colfelice

Coldragone and Villa Felice in 1923 by state decree of the municipality of Rocca d' Arce spun again and named Colfelice an independent municipality. In 1927 it became part of the newly established province of Frosinone. Over the past 30 years, the change of the agrarian villages took to the industrial site.
