The Alpine - Gelbling or greenish Clouded Yellow ( Colias phicomone ) is a, limited to the European high mountains, butterfly of the family of White (Pieridae ) in the subfamily of the yellow pieces.

Features

Characteristics of the adult bees

The male moths have a yellow upper wing surface with strong dark squamation, which leads to a dark greenish coloration overall. On the dark edge of the wings are more or less developed, partly missing yellow Submarginalflecken. On the forewing is centrally located and a black spot on the hind wings, a yellowish reddish center spot. The hem of the front and outer edge of the forewing and the whole edge of the hind wing is rosy, as well as head and sensor. The underside of the forewings is white, the apex more or less yellow. The underside of the hindwing is yellow and scaly dark in the inner part. The center spot is often double perlmutterfarbig with red border, sometimes the form of lines continues outward. The female is oberseits impure white, with fewer but more sharply localized dark drawing, among hand paler.

Features of the crawler

The velvety Raupeist thick and cylindrical. It has a dark green color with fine black dots. On the sides runs a white streak in which the black air holes are on yellow stains. The belly and feet are green, the yellowish-green head is spherical and finely hairy.

Features of the dolls

The pupa is dark green with a dull yellow side stripes. At both ends it is pointed and curved at the back of the back.

Distribution and habitat

The Alpine - Gelbling comes in the Cantabrian Mountains, in the Pyrenees, Alps and Western Carpathians. A small local population exists in the Massif Central. One finds the way to alpine meadows between 900 to 3000 meters above sea level.

Way of life

The caterpillar feeds on various plants of the pea. Proved are vetch (Vicia sativa), Vicia pyrenaica, Narrow Wicke (Vicia angustifolia), Vicia narbonensis, alfalfa (Medicago sativa), Plebejus ( Coronilla sp. ), Common Fenugreek ( Lotus corniculatus ), mountain Spitz Kiel ( Oxytropis montana) and common horseshoe vetch ( Hippocrepis comosa ).

Flight times and caterpillars

The caterpillar lives in May and June, the butterfly flies in July and August. Sometimes occurs a partial second generation in August and September.
