Colias sagartia

The Colias Sagartia is a butterfly of the family of White (Pieridae ) in the subfamily of the Yellow Linge ( Coli Adinae ). It is endemic in the Alborz Mountains in northern Iran and the mountains in the north -west Iran.

Features

The moths have a wingspan 48-54 mm. The males have a dark green silvery color, similar Colias chlorocoma, but a little darker and the color varies from bluish to greenish. This color is mainly observed on the top of the front wings. In some animals, the front upper wing surface is yellow which contrasts strongly with the steel blue pollinated hind wings. The broad dark Marginalinde the forewing is diffuse inward and penetrates in some copies to the fragrance shed before. She wears many, more or less yellow, often dark over-molded spots. On the hind wings the marginal binding is narrow and carries a set of clear yellow spots on the inner edge. The underside of the forewing is pale gray and the Apex just like the hind wings yellow- green. In the middle of the hind wings have two to three reddish- edged spots.

The ground color of the upper wing surface of the female is sometimes white and sometimes yellow to greenish, especially on the hind wings. It is more or less obscured by brown scales. The whitish spots in the marginal binding are particularly on the hind wings very large. The Discoidalfleck is yellow. The underside is shiny gray - blue.

The sensors are very dirty pink, legs are pink, and the wing edge is pink and white.

Distribution and habitat

The species is endemic to the Alborz Mountains in northern Iran and the mountains in the north-western Iran. The moths fly at 2500-3200 meters altitude meadows and rocky slopes, especially if there a thorny tragacanth - type common.

Way of life

The moths fly from June to July in one generation. They fly very fast and are even faster than the larger Colias uniformis, which occurs in the same area. Hedgehog cushion ( Acantholimon ) and Astragalus ( Astragalus ) are the food plants of the caterpillars.
