Colico Lake

The Lago Colico is a large lake in southern Chile.

It is located in the IX Region ( Región de la Araucanía ). The lake is located 25 km south of the city Cunco. South of the lake is the famous Lake Villarrica.

The Lago Colico has an area of ​​56 km ². At the lake there are many beautiful beaches, ideal for swimming. He is the source of the River Colico.

North of the lake is the National Park Conguillío. Here you can find up to 1000 years old Araukarienbäume.

History

The area was part of the 1604-1881 power range of the Mapuche. The colonization of Cunco began in February 1883. The city was officially founded in 1918.

Tourism

The lake is ideal for sailing and fishing. The lake and the rivers are full of fish. The area is ideal for kayaking and windsurfing.
