Colijn de Coter

Colijn de Coter (* 1450, † 1539 or 1540) is a Flemish painter who worked in Messina in the second half of the 15th century.

His main work is a painting of the Deposition. It can be seen in the Regional Museum of Messina. However, this painting is only a fragment. Thieme -Becker thinks that this painting was formerly a monument painting that was later cut up and scattered all over the world. As a potential date comes into question in 1678, when the trade and financial aristocracy Messina lost the rebellion against the Spanish viceroy and Messina high reparations were imposed.

From the Workshop de Coters the Passion altar of Orsoy originates in the St. Nicholas Church in Orsoy.
