Colin Edwards

Colin Edwards, nicknamed " Texas Tornado", ( born February 27, 1974 in Houston, Texas) is an American professional motorcycle racer and two-time World Superbike champion.

Career

Have always dreamed of the Texas Tornado of them to switch to Grand Prix racing. Despite two World Superbike titles in 2000 and 2002 Honda never gave him that chance though. After his second Superbike title in 2002, it worked but then.

Edwards was. Between 1999 and 2002 twice World Champion and twice runner-up World Champion in the World Superbike Championship With the Australian Troy Bayliss, who also joined the MotoGP class in 2003, he returned there for two years duels. Both were the measure of all things in the World Superbike Championship at the time by far.

Especially the 2002 World Cup was serious. Troy Bayliss looked at the half of the season already like the sure winner. But Edwards did not give up. With an impressive winning streak the Texans the title in the last race won back.

Colin Edwards had for the 2003 season offers from Kawasaki, Yamaha and Ducati, but ultimately switched to Aprilia. A big, as it later turned out to be very challenging. Already in 2002, the Italians were able to win with Régis Laconi a potted plant in the MotoGP class. Along with his team-mate Noriyuki Haga of fast Americans wanted to turn the tide in favor of the RS3. But the disillusionment occurred while Texans faster than he thought. At the opening Grand Prix in Suzuka Japanese Edwards did indeed sit up with a sixth place, but this should be his best result of the season. More was overloaded with technology with the Aprilia simply not there. In the other race, he had to be content with ranks between ten and 15.

The following season, 2004 Colin Edwards drove a Honda RC211V in the Gresini team at the side of Vice World Champion Sete Gibernau, recorded his first two podium finishes and finished fifth World Cup.

For 2005 and 2006, he then signed a two -year contract at the Yamaha factory team as team-mate Valentino Rossi. He was the only driver of the entire starting field, which was in the points in all 17 Grand Prix of the 2005 season. He drove every time at least tenth place and stood on the podium three times, but so far could not win in MotoGP. With his team -mate Valentino Rossi, who was the driver's world champion, he won the Constructors' Championship in 2005 for Yamaha, the team title for the team Gauloises Yamaha.

Following mediocre performances in 2007, he went in 2008 at the Tech 3 team from Yamaha at the start. His first team mate there was the then reigning World Superbike champion James Toseland. In 2009, he was able to distance him clearly and drove in the 2010 season along with Ben Spies continue in Tech 3 Yamaha team. In the 2011 season the team remained Edwards faithful and received with Cal Crutchlow another MotoGP rookie as a teammate. In the GP of Malaysia Edwards was no fault involved in the tragic accident in which Marco Simoncelli was killed. Edwards drew this a serious shoulder injury and could not start the last race at Valencia. In the 2012 season, Edwards drove a BMW driven ( tuned engine of a S 1000 RR) Suter machine for the Forward Racing team. Also the 2013 season he played at NGM Mobile Forward Racing team-mate Claudio Corti was. The two each piloted a FTR - Kawasaki. The 2014 season will be his third in the services of NGM Mobile Forward Racing. Aleix Espargaró there is his teammate.
