Colin Montgomerie

Colin Stuart "Monty" Montgomerie, OBE ( born June 23, 1963 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish professional golfer.

Life

The Early Years

Although Scottish by birth and parentage, he grew up in Yorkshire, England, where his father James worked there. Later the secretary of the famous Scottish Royal Troon Golf Club and Colin was able to be one of the first British golfer to complete a U.S. college that Houston Baptist University. More recently, some of the young, top British golfers such as Luke Donald Montgomerie followed example.

Monty won three important Scottish amateur tournaments, the Scottish Youths Championship in 1983, the Scottish Stroke Play Championship in 1985 and the Scottish Amateur Championship in 1987. He played twice for his country in the Eisenhower Trophy, 1984 and 1986 and twice in 1985 and 1987, for the UK & Ireland in the prestigious Walker Cup.

Pro career

1988 Montgomerie Professional and simultaneously with the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year Award ( best newcomer ) of the PGA European Tour was excellent. Within a short time he became one of the top professionals and in 1991 convened for the Ryder Cup team. From 1993 to 1999 he won every year the European Tour Order of Merit ( money list ) and recorded 31 victories on the Tour, including the prestigious Volvo PGA Championship in record series (1998-2000 ) and the Volvo Masters in 1993 and 2002 - the highly doped final tournament of the the season.

He was five times second in majors ( U.S. Open 1994, 1997 and 2006, the PGA Championship in 1995 and The Open Championship in 2005 ), but is the only absolute world-class golfer who still could not win Major. This dubious reputation follows him at every turn.

Monty played from 1991 to 2006 in eight consecutive Ryder Cup matches and was elected in 2010 to the captain of the European team. It has 2005 for the 8th time ( record ) the money list on the European Tour can decide for themselves and simultaneously achieved the first golfer € 20 million total prize money on the European Tour.

Private

In February 2006, Montgomerie was after a long separation from his wife divorced, and paid a final severance payment in the amount of £ 15 million.

Honors

The end of 2004 was awarded to Colin Montgomerie of Officer of the Order of the British Empire ( OBE). He is the representative of the Westin Turnberry Resort, Ayrshire, Scotland, where there is also a Colin Montgomerie Golf Academy is located.

In 2011 he received the award at the Scottish Golf Awards, along with Paul Lawrie the Lifetime Achievement Award.

In May 2013 Montgomerie was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.
